Track Description

Agent oriented modelling provides a conceptual framework for analysis and simulation of complex social systems. This comes from the fact that agent related concepts allow the representation of organizational and behavioural aspects of individuals in a society and their interactions.

�

This has motivated in the last years the development of a wide range of software languages/shells/libraries to simulate agent-based models. This workshop intends to promote discussion on theories, methods, and tools for agent-based modelling and simulation of complex social systems. This discussion should lead to the identification of key research issues in this novel domain:

1.��Complexity and Agent Based Simulation. Simulation of complex systems. Simulation of ABM and GIS, Social Networks, Human-subject experimentation. Contributions from Social Neuroscience and Neuroeconomics. ABM for policy-makers.

2.�Conceptual and Methodological issues concerning the social sciences practitioners. Modelling facilities. Threats and opportunities for computer scientists and social scientists cooperation. Rigour and Replication in social simulation. Statistical and Software validation.

3.�Scalability of agent based simulations. Limitations for Agent Based Simulation. Is there a need for a grid-based agent-based simulation platform?

There is an increasing interest in Agent-based Social Simulation as a new paradigm to study Complex Systems. While the physical world is considered composed of systems that are linear or approximately linear, it is evident that human societies, economics, institutions and organizations are complex systems, using complex in the technical sense to mean that the behaviour of the system as a whole cannot be determined by partitioning it and understanding the behaviour of each of the parts separately (a classic strategy of physical sciences).

Aims and Scope

The Construction and Engineering Project Management Workshop (CEPMaW�10) will provide a unique opportunity for professionals and researchers to exchange their knowledge and advances for the new era, filling the gap between theory and practice in project management.

This event proposes a one-and-half day workshop to debate on current issues in Project Management, both in construction and engineering industries. The main idea is to promote a forum where novel research and professional practices can be deeply discussed to provide efficient solutions and new tools in this discipline. In this second edition, we are particularly interested in successful cases in PM, implementation of methodologies, project portfolio and program management, and the links between corporate strategy and project portfolio.

The range of technical issues that Project Management has dealt with, and continues to deal with, is quite diverse and extensive. Relevant topics to this workshop include, but are not limited to, the following:

Call for Contributions

Contributions (position papers) on these questions are welcome. They should be of an extension of around 2 pages, in PDF format.

Authors are required to use Springer LNCS format for proceedings.

Submissions may be made through the EasyChair conference system which will be available from 1st June.

After the workshop we plan to organize a special issue in an international journal (to be determined) with contributions from the participants on the results of the sessions.

Multi-agent systems (MASs) provide powerful models for representing real-world applications with an appropriate degree of complexity and dynamic. Several industrial experiences have already shown that the use of MAS offers advantages in many different areas such as manufacturing processes, e-Commerce, network management, etc. Since MASs in such contexts need to be tested before their deployment and execution, methodologies that support validation through simulation (e.g. discrete-event simulation, agent-based simulation, etc.) of the MAS under development are highly required.

In fact, simulation of a MAS cannot only demonstrate that a MAS correctly behaves according to its specifications
but can also support the analysis of emergent properties of the MAS under-test.

Areas of Interest

MAS&S'09 aims at providing a forum for discussing recent advances about the integration of Simulation and Agent Oriented Software Engineering (AOSE) methodologies and techniques for the analysis, design, validation and implementation of MASs. In particular, the areas of interest are the following (although this list should not be treated as exclusive):

El Project Mangement Institute (PMI) es la principal Organizaci�n Mundial dedicada a la Direcci�n de Proyectos. Computer simulation is a powerful tool for helping us understand aspects of society (both observed and in the abstract). However, how best to do this and under what conditions it is useful are still open questions.

The 6th European Social Simulation Association Conference will, like its predecessors, attract the best papers from across the world, describing the newest and most significant social simulation work. The papers will cover a wide range of social subjects: human, animal and artificial, and apply a wide range of simulation techniques. The methodology and, indeed, the very nature of the enterprise will be discussed and debated. The simulations described will go from the extremely abstract to the most specific and practical. Results and ideas from social simulation are starting to inform real life decisions (for good or ill) and there will be, no doubt, considerable discussion about this. A hot issue will be how and when one should compare a simulation to evidence.

Social Simulation seems to be at a "tipping point" between revolutionary and normal science where it is trying to introduce more care and rigour into its methods. Come participate in the formation of a new science!

En el sector inmobiliario los a�os de bonanza han propiciado, entre otras cosas, que a las empresas espa�olas se le haya quedado “peque�o" el mercado espa�ol y hayan decidido salir a invertir en otros pa�ses, como por ejemplo, Francia, Alemania, Pa�ses del Este, Marruecos, M�jico, Brasil, etc.

Es el momento de que imitemos a nuestros antecesores brit�nicos y las consultoras espa�olas de project management decidamos acompa�ar a las empresas inmobiliarias para desarrollar sus inversiones en Par�s, Berl�n, Varsovia, Bucarest, Casablanca, M�jico D.F. o Natal.

Ahora bien, el reto aunque es claro no deja de ser complejo. No basta con saber hacer las cosas aqu�; se trata de acompa�ar a nuestros clientes, ayud�ndolos y facilit�ndoles el desarrollo de sus promociones. Para eso, debemos conocer el sector inmobiliario y de la construcci�n de aquellos pa�ses donde queramos estar; es decir, conocer c�mo se construye, c�mo se dise�a, c�mo es su legislaci�n y normativa urban�stica, etc.

Para poder estar presente en esos pa�ses se me ocurren dos f�rmulas: la primera es buscar una empresa de project management local que se ajuste a nuestras caracter�sticas y llegar a hacer un joint venture o adquisici�n, y la segunda, abrir una delegaci�n con personal y t�cnicos del pa�s.

Ambas tienen sus “pros" y sus “contras" pero lo que est� claro es que nuestras empresas de project management tienen capacidad y solvencia para hacerse internacionales.

CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

Los pasados dias 2 y 3 de Octubre de 2008, INSISOC tuvo el honor de organizar, en colaboracion con numerosos patrocinadores, el primer "Construction and Engineering Project Management international Workshop", bajo la denominaci�n de CEPMaW'08.

La tem�tica de las jornadas celebradas se centro en el �rea de la Direcci�n de Proyectos (Project Management), un �rea de conocimiento que ha experimentado un extraordinario avance durante las dos �ltimas d�cadas. El CEPMaW'08 constituy� un foro �nico en el que profesionales, acad�micos e investigadores intercambiar�n conocimientos y experiencias, tendiendo puentes entre la teor�a y la pr�ctica profesional de la direcci�n de proyectos. Durante un d�a y medio, se discuti� sobre avances metodol�gicos, nuevas tendencias, as� como casos de �xito en la direcci�n de proyectos en la construcci�n y en las ingenier�as.
